Laura Crisp Davis, Chief Operating Officer at One Moorer, Resigns

For Immediate Release

August 20, 2025

One Moorer Media & Management is saddened to announce that  Laura Crisp Davis has resigned from her position as Chief Operating Officer. She has been on indefinite leave since May to care for an elderly family member full-time.

From One Moorer's inception in 2023, Laura helped build the company to what it is today, sharing her experience as an independent publisher who focused on script-to-book projects, which became the business model for One Moorer's publishing imprints, Dark Anthem Press and One Anthem Press. She was inspired in 2020 to adapt scripts into IP after an interaction during a pitch event in Burbank.

"I had spent the week coaching and building up my group of screenwriters' courage and confidence so that they could successfully pitch to industry decisionmakers, many for the first time, and this dude just sat down and dismissed the entire table. He said, 'Yeah, so I'm not interested in anything that's not attached to IP. But don't write books, because you won't make any money at that either.' He hadn't even heard our pitches yet!"

Within 48 hours, Laura was making notes during her flight back to Chicago, on how she'd prove him wrong. Six months later, she and nine other women screenwriters published an anthology of their scripts-turned-into-short-stories, which debuted in the top 10 on several subgenre lists while the industry was at a standstill from the pandemic. The dedication page read, Dedicated to a closed door. Challenge accepted. We built a nicer door--and we held it open for each other.

"I figured, why should he get to crash people's dreams like that? You want IP? Here it is. And now you'll have to pay for it twice--once as IP rights, and once as a script," Crisp Davis adds. "And it worked. Nearly everyone from the anthology got an option, a shopping agreement, a screen version of their story, or at least a meeting that turned into an industry relationship. That's why, when James Moorer and I started collaborating, I knew the business model worked."

As COO, Laura Crisp Davis applied her background in publishing, script supervising and consulting, screenwriting, standup comedy, and marketing to co-create the framework for One Moorer and its publishing imprints.

"I'm proud of the work we've done so far. It is bittersweet to leave, but I have to put my family and my own self-care first. This is just what life is right now. I wish James and the rest of the team all the best and look forward to seeing what they'll accomplish together."

Nicola Pittam, previously One Moorer's Director of Author Services, steps in as the new COO.

"We are thankful for all of Laura's expertise, hard work, and dedication" said James Moorer, CEO. "One Moorer would not be where it is today without Laura. We wish her well and we know we haven't seen the last of her."
